Art Classes and Workshops

Take an art class or sign up for a workshop taught by local and regional makers and artists! Get involved in ways to explore and get your hands on new applications of traditional arts. We've partnered with local instructors to previously offer classes and workshops in stained glass, fashion design, eco-dyeing, sewing and textiles, and so much more! All sessions will take place in the Maker Labs or in the Maker Playground makerspace at the Fishers Parks HQ, 8100 E. 106th Street, in Fishers. Shop Class

Our Shop Class series at the Maker Playground covers safety and operational procedures of the equipment in our makerspace! Learn the basics of each set of tools and equipment in the following workshops:

Laser Cutting & Engraving
5 to 8 p.m. every other Tuesday

CNC Routing
5:30 to 7:30 p.m. every other Thursday

3D Printing
5 to 7 p.m. monthly on the second Tuesday

Stained Glass for Beginners October 2023

Stained Glass for Beginners

Maker Playground | $99/person | Ages 18+

Learn the process of creating stained glass from start to finish! This workshop is an opportunity for you to try something you’ve always wondered about without the need to purchase any equipment, tools, or supplies, as we supply everything you will need to create your project. You don’t need any experience, just enthusiasm and a willingness to try something new. We will teach you how to cut glass, apply the copper foil, and solder your piece together. By the end of the class, you will have your very own creation completed and ready to take home with you.

Intermediate Stained Glass October 2023

Intermediate Stained Glass

6 to 8:30 p.m. October 17 & 18 | Maker Playground | $159/person | Ages 18+

This two-day workshop will cover several new topics to expand your knowledge as you create a larger project than in the beginners’ class. During the construction of your piece, we will talk about how to design a pattern and prepare your templates from that pattern, how to use stained glass patina to "color" your solder joints after the project is soldered, and the different methods available to frame your piece. Hand tools will be available for use during class, and supplies are included in the class cost.

PREREQUISITE: Must have completed the Stained Glass for Beginners class OR must have experience with glass cutting, copper foil, and soldering

Stained Glass Open Studio October 2023

Stained Glass Open Studio

Maker Playground | $75/person | Ages 18+

Open Studio sessions will be offered at the following dates and times:

  • 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. October 18
  • 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. October 19

Stained Glass Open Studio is for those with intermediate stained glass skills and is a great opportunity to spread your wings artistically, but with the security of some backup.

During the Open Studio, it’s up to you what you work on, whether it’s a project that's already in progress, or something new that you want to create. No specific instruction is planned, but guidance is available. Students can bring their personal tools or can use our equipment and tools during the session. Supplies (art glass, copper foil, solder) are NOT included and should be brought to the studio by each student. The instructor also will have these items available for purchase, if needed, at the beginning of each session.
